Therapy? More Like Playtime :-)

Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday Ethan gets to hang out with one of his favorite crushes, his speech therapist Jen (seen here holding the munchkin). He loves, loves, LOVES Jen and all the fun games and songs she teaches him.

We get a lot of questions about therapy: what he does there; why does he go; and, is it working. We are happy to talk with anyone that has questions, but thought that this post would help you see some of the things he does in therapy.

Each session starts with the "Hello" song, which Ethan is a huuuuuge fan of. While he was not his normal perky self on the day the video was taken, you get the idea (ps--sorry about Jason's singing...a good voice is NOT something he was blessed with):

We also sing other songs such as "Old MacDonald", "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and "Open, Shut Them". In addition to singing, Ethan is being taught to focus on sources of noise and learning that his voice gets him more of things he likes, such as popping bubbles, as seen in this video:

Ethan also gets to play with different toys that he doesn't know we are actually using to evaluate his hearing development using the 6 Ling sounds (/m/, /oo/, /ah/, /ee/, /sh/ and /s/). These sounds are associated with toys, such as "ah" with an airplane, "mm" with an ice cream cone and the "sh" with a rattle while we say "shake shake shake". As seen below, the rattle, surprise surprise, made it into Ethan's mouth in about .5 seconds.
